The three little Tui!

By Mabel Watson.

Once upon a time, there were three little Tui. The youngest Tui was called Harry. The middle sized Tui was called Larry and the eldest Tui was called Barry. One day, mama Tui sent them off to go practice building their own little nests. Harry made his out of fluff and wool he collected, Larry made his out of leaves and straw, Barry made his out of sticks and wood. One day, a big bad Taniwha came into the woods and saw the nests in the trees and went over to take a look. When the Taniwha approached the woods, all the animals hid behind the bushes. The Taniwha went over to the tall trees and saw Harry. He held the trunk between his arms and started to shake. But just in the nick of time Harry flew away into Larry’s nest. The Taniwha came marching over to Larry’s nest. Harry and Larry were both huddled up together shaking like mad! As soon as the Taniwha came over, he tried to explain, but as soon as he started to talk HArry and Larry shot off like a rocket into the nest that belonged to Barry. Surprisingly Barry was the only one who had actually made more than a nest, he had a roof, walls, a front door, a kitchen and a bedroom. When Harry and Larry arrived to Barry’s nest, they rushed inside and told Barry about the Taniwha. Both Harry and Larry were snuggled up under the blanket, while Barry was making milo. The Taniwha came stomping over to Barry’s nest and opened the door. Then Barry told him to stay back! As soon as Barry told Taniwha to go away he started crying and told Harry, Larry and Barry that he just wanted a friend, but because he was so big and scary looking no one wanted to be his friend or play with him. So, the Taniwha became the best of friends with the tui.

Christmas!

By Mabel.

Christmas is a time where you spend time with your family and friends. Some cultures celebrate Christmas differently. Now let me tell you some things that might help you to understand what Christmas is all about!

DECORATIONS

Lots of people decorate their houses with decorations like Christmas trees, fairy lights and tinsel. Christmas trees are like small pine trees decorated with ball balls, stockings, an angel or star and other things like that. Quite a few people put decorations on their doors with missile tow wreaths or stars.

TRADITIONS

Many people celebrate Christmas using traditions.Traditions are things that have been done in the same way for a very long time. Traditions can be anything like caroling, giving presents, decorations and spending time with your family. Lots of people have a big feast with lots of yummy food.

FOOD

Most families have a big feast with lots of different kinds of food. But my favourite part about the food is the pudding! My great Nana makes the best fruit cake! All different people have all different kinds of food.

Christmas is one of my favourite holidays! Have a wonderful next Christmas. I hope you enjoy it!

Showering in Space

By Mabel Watson

Have you ever wondered how astronauts shower in space? Well I’m here to tell you!

Well, in space you have to run twice a day and you must get SUPER sweaty. So you must take a shower. But of course the showers won’t  be the same as on Earth because there is no gravity!

Astronauts use small water pouches with pre-mixed soapy water which attaches to the wall with velcro strips so it does not fly away. They also have small hand towels to help clean their face and hair. The astronauts have little pottles of runny shampoo.

Ok so right now you’re probably wondering how they actually take a shower. First the astronauts take the water pouch and squeeze the water on the hand towel and dab it on their face. Then they squirt some shampoo around their hair and dab some more water on themselves finally they dry their hair.

AND THAT’S HOW YOU SHOWER IN SPACE!!!

LULU

Lulu, Lulu has curly dark blond hair, huge big blue eyes and ALWAYS wears ponytails to school. Sometimes she can be very irritating.(she mainly does that to annoy me on purpose). She likes wearing skirts and dresses. She also likes going on the trampoline, colouring, camping, eating chocolate, watching T.V and riding her bike. Now, Lulu HATES fish and vegetables. Lulu ESPECIALLY hates broccoli and spinach. When we go out, sometimes she can be occasionally enjoyable and funny, but usually at home she is just annoying. Lulu loves playing. She is one of my younger sisters. Lulu is six years old, and nearly seven.
