The three little Tui!

By Mabel Watson.

Once upon a time, there were three little Tui. The youngest Tui was called Harry. The middle sized Tui was called Larry and the eldest Tui was called Barry. One day, mama Tui sent them off to go practice building their own little nests. Harry made his out of fluff and wool he collected, Larry made his out of leaves and straw, Barry made his out of sticks and wood. One day, a big bad Taniwha came into the woods and saw the nests in the trees and went over to take a look. When the Taniwha approached the woods, all the animals hid behind the bushes. The Taniwha went over to the tall trees and saw Harry. He held the trunk between his arms and started to shake. But just in the nick of time Harry flew away into Larry’s nest. The Taniwha came marching over to Larry’s nest. Harry and Larry were both huddled up together shaking like mad! As soon as the Taniwha came over, he tried to explain, but as soon as he started to talk HArry and Larry shot off like a rocket into the nest that belonged to Barry. Surprisingly Barry was the only one who had actually made more than a nest, he had a roof, walls, a front door, a kitchen and a bedroom. When Harry and Larry arrived to Barry’s nest, they rushed inside and told Barry about the Taniwha. Both Harry and Larry were snuggled up under the blanket, while Barry was making milo. The Taniwha came stomping over to Barry’s nest and opened the door. Then Barry told him to stay back! As soon as Barry told Taniwha to go away he started crying and told Harry, Larry and Barry that he just wanted a friend, but because he was so big and scary looking no one wanted to be his friend or play with him. So, the Taniwha became the best of friends with the tui.

Christmas!

By Mabel.

Christmas is a time where you spend time with your family and friends. Some cultures celebrate Christmas differently. Now let me tell you some things that might help you to understand what Christmas is all about!

DECORATIONS

Lots of people decorate their houses with decorations like Christmas trees, fairy lights and tinsel. Christmas trees are like small pine trees decorated with ball balls, stockings, an angel or star and other things like that. Quite a few people put decorations on their doors with missile tow wreaths or stars.

TRADITIONS

Many people celebrate Christmas using traditions.Traditions are things that have been done in the same way for a very long time. Traditions can be anything like caroling, giving presents, decorations and spending time with your family. Lots of people have a big feast with lots of yummy food.

FOOD

Most families have a big feast with lots of different kinds of food. But my favourite part about the food is the pudding! My great Nana makes the best fruit cake! All different people have all different kinds of food.

Christmas is one of my favourite holidays! Have a wonderful next Christmas. I hope you enjoy it!

Christmas Time

By Sylvie

Christmas is a very special time of the year. It brings happiness to a lot of humankind. When I say a lot I mean most people celebrate it but some people don’t.

Some people celabrate Christmas differently. I’m going to tell you how you do it in New Zealand.

TRADITIONS

Traditions are a very big part of Christmas. A tradition is something that has been done the same way for a long time like putting up a Christmas tree or giving things. On Christmas night Santa Claus comes and gives presents to all the kids and leaves them under their Christmas tree or Carolling singing songs. There are also Christmas colours that are red and green and gold and sometimes silver too. You sometimes wear these Colours as well You can also go on a holiday with your friends and family. It’s summer in Christmas in New Zealand so it’s sunny.

DECORATIONS

A lot of people decorate their house at Christmas time with for instance you can put up Christmas trees (like small mini pine trees) and hang ornaments on it like all ball balls a mini Santa Claus,a mini Christmas tree, snowflakes, lights (fairy lights),tinsel (tinsel is like spikey long stuff),you can hang up stockings under your chimney and a lot of people decorate their doors with wreath, stars, mistletoe and lots of other cool things.  You also put Christmas crackers on the table which is usually set nicely with yet more tinsel and perhaps a pretty table cloth.

FOOD

At Christmas or any celebration really you get treats but at Christmas there is chocolate fruit cake, ham or a steak you can also have a salad or a stew. A pudding might be there too.

If you read this story correctly you would know that Christmas is completely and utterly amazingly fun.

Birthdays!

Birthdays are an important day of the year because they are about celebrating that you were born. Birthday celebrations vary in different countries and cultures. But today, I will teach you about birthdays in New Zealand!

Traditions

You will usually have a cake on your birthday. But don’t be alarmed when you go to a birthday party with a cake, because it will be on fire! Well not actually on fire, but it will have candles that are lit on fire. The number of candles you have on your cake are the same as the age you are turning. The person who is having the birthday gets to blow out the candles after making a wish. Another tradition people have is singing a special birthday song for you.

Food

On your birthday, there will normally be special food. I get to choose what my family has for breakfast and dinner on my birthday. At parties, there’s also yummy food like chips, lollies, maybe juice and other delicious – but not usually very healthy – food.

Presents

Presents will be given to you on your birthday by family and friends along with a card. Your birthday presents could be a teddy, toys, Lego, a book, a voucher or other things like that.

In conclusion not all birthdays and New Zealand are the same, but most of them have something – like cake, cards or presents – in common.

THE END!

My Dad!

By Anna

My dad – Jon – has short, brown hair that’s almost black. His hair is not very tidy but not too messy, apart from when he’s going to work, then it’s waxed and immaculate. He has calm, pale green eyes with a ring of light brown around his pupil. He is fit and strong and even lets me sit on his back while he’s doing push-ups!

My dad likes quite a lot of stuff. Some of the stuff he likes includes roast lamb, roast chicken, (he likes roast anything really), turkish delights, beer and jiu jitsu. Not to mention watching cricket, playing cricket, watching rugby, Tool (the band), Taylor Swift (the singer) and hunting.

The main things he doesn’t like are fish pie and me and Autumn (my sister) being mean to each other. So not much.

My dad is a software designer and mostly makes parking meters. He uses so many computers for coding and once I got to play a game on a giant screen! That was so fun.

When my mum and sister were gone for a week, I lived like a queen; We watched a movie on a school night, I had two ice blocks in one night, I had a hot chocolate before school and it was very fun.

So now I’ve told you all the things I know about my dad. I wonder if he’s keeping anything from me…

SPACE By Eva

Hello and welcome to the show today we are learning about drum roll please space and if you wandering i am a pencil we’ll a smart pencil and i am calling in from space.Ok so are first question is from a year three and he’s wondering how do you keep fit in space? Well as pencils do it a different way but astronauts do it like this.

Astronauts stand on a treadmill. they put on a harness and clip the chain on their harness because if they don’t they will float away because there is no gravity.

Astronauts control the treadmill with their computer, astronauts run twice a day and that is how you run in space so if you sweet in space you have to wash yourself and that is our next question how do you shower in space. Well astronauts can’t shower in space but they can clean their hair so you need soapy water that is in a bottle and shampoo and conditioner and a comb and a towel this is one way to do it you have to make sure that you get all the water in the towel because if you don’t water will float away. So when you have the water in the towel rub it in your hair and then you put the shampoo then conditioner and then comb away… sorry folks it looks like I’m going back into my pencil case because I have ran out of paper so I guess this is goodbye.(behind the scenes) I don’t want to stop Boss there’s like 20 more chapters.

showers in space by Cohen

Have you ever wondered how in space you shower in space? you can’t take a normal shower because you don’t have a drain or flowing water. If you did it would float away. So you you have a pouch full of soapy water and a face cloth. Rub the soapy water on the cloth and rub that on your face. Then you go outside and say to the other astronouts i feel so clean. you should try it if you can’t haha.
